HanjiMap Privacy Policy
HanjiMap (the "app") helps you find Korean-owned businesses in the United States on a map and share reviews, photos and community posts. This policy explains what the app collects, why, and how it is kept, shared and deleted.
1. What we collect
| Information | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account — name, email, profile picture and the sign-in provider's (Google or Apple) unique ID | When you sign in | Creating your account, attributing your reviews, posts and photos, verifying business claims |
| Location — your current position while using the app | While the app is open, if you grant permission | Showing nearby businesses and choosing your service area. Your location is used to answer the request and is not stored on our servers. |
| Content you create — reviews, ratings, photos, community posts and replies, contact details you enter when claiming a business | When you write or upload it | Showing it to other users; confirming business ownership. Photos are resized on the server and stripped of metadata, including GPS, before storage. |
| Push notification token | If you allow notifications | Notifying you of claim decisions and replies to your reviews and posts |
| Device and error data — app version, device model, OS version, technical details of an error, your user ID (never name or email) | When the app hits an error | Fixing bugs (Sentry) |
| Server access logs — IP address, request time and path | Whenever the app talks to our servers | Security, abuse prevention, incident response; kept briefly |
The app uses no advertising identifiers and does not track you for advertising.
2. Third parties that receive data
- Mapbox — map tiles; receives your device's IP address and the map area being shown.
- Google / Apple — sign-in.
- Expo (Expo Application Services) — push notification delivery.
- Sentry — error reports, without personal identifiers.
- Cloudflare — security and caching in front of our servers.
We do not sell personal information or share it for advertising.
3. Retention and deletion
Account information and the content you create are kept while your account exists. Me → Delete account in the app immediately removes your account, favorites, reviews, photos, community posts and replies, push tokens and pending business claims. A business you were registered as owning keeps its listing but loses the link to you. Server backups roll off within 14 days.
4. Your rights
You can edit or delete your reviews, posts and photos and delete your account in the app. For any other access, correction or deletion request, email contact form; we respond within 30 days.
5. Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information.
6. Security
All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted (HTTPS). Sign-in tokens stay on your device; the server strips location metadata from photos and excludes credentials from error reports.
7. Changes
Changes are posted on this page with a new effective date; material changes are also announced in the app.
